When not at work Dr. Barber enjoys spending time with her family and friends and loves being outdoors. She likes to be on the water–river, lake, or ocean, spending time in the country whenever she can, and enjoys gardening, interior design, cooking, reading, and traveling. She loves to go for walks in the rain (or snow) and appreciates all four seasons that central Virginia has to offer.
Dr. Barber has been a physician in central Virginia since moving to the area in 2019 for her residency at UVA. During residency she developed her special interests in psychodynamic-oriented psychiatry and psychotherapy, international psychiatry, and in her final year served as Chief Resident. In addition to serving her local community, she has enjoyed various training opportunities in public health and psychiatry in international settings including southeast India, Zambia, and Uganda. Although she was born in Texas and has lived in Tennessee, Florida, North Carolina, and Alabama, she spent her formative years in Missouri, where she received her undergraduate degree from Missouri State University in 2010, studying Cell and Molecular Biology and Chemistry. She later attended Washington University in St. Louis where she received her Master of Public Health in 2012. Following graduate school she spent three years working as a Phase 1 clinical oncology research coordinator at Siteman Cancer Center. She left St. Louis in 2014 to attend medical school at the University of Alabama Birmingham, graduating in 2019.
